Frequently Asked Questions

See some common questions and answers below, or call us at (613) 717-0555

  • What is a foot care nurse?

A foot care nurse is a nurse who specializes in the treatment and prevention of ankle and foot disorders, from minor issues like ingrown toenails to more serious problems like diabetes-related foot ulcers.

  • How do foot care nurses compare to podiatrists?

Podiatrists are medical doctors and are responsible for diagnosing and fixing foot/nail problems.

We are nurses, with extensive training in foot care and our responsibility is to prevent and treat problems. There is some overlap between these two disciplines.

We complete lower limb assessments, assessment of shoes and gait, nail cleaning, nail trimming, nail filing, debridement and paring down of calluses, removal of corns, reducing thick nails, addressing fungal toenails, care of ingrown toenails, lotion, foot/nail monitoring. We also provide health education. We do not perform surgery or prescribe medication.

We work closely with doctors, physiotherapists, and other health professionals. We are willing to advocate and refer our clients as their needs require.

  • Why should I see a certified foot care nurse?

Certified foot care nurses are highly educated and medically trained in this practice. They are professionals who are equipped to manage basic, advanced, and diabetic types of foot and nail care.

  • How often should I get foot care done?

Typically, clients schedule appointments every 4-8 weeks; it depends on how fast your nails grow/your preference.

  • Whose feet do you take care of?

Anyone’s! We like to prevent problems from occurring. We treat a large variety of people. Our feet are often undervalued. Well cared for feet can affect your knees, back, circulation, balance, and gait. Our feet’s contribution to our overall health is significant.

  • Why don’t you provide pedicures?

Foot care nurses provide a nursing service, not pedicures. Pedicures are generalized services which do not treat or prevent foot/nail problems.

After an appointment with us, you will receive professional, person-centered care and more knowledge about how to prevent the problems and pain from happening.

  • Are you licensed & insured to provide foot care?

Yes, Katrina is both a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and a Certified Foot Care Nurse (CFCN). Katrina is licensed and qualified to provide safe, knowledgeable, and professional foot care services.

  • How long does a visit take?

An initial visit takes approximately 45 minutes to 60 minutes. It includes an intake, which involves gathering a health history and the medications you are taking, a lower limb assessment, and any health concerns.

We provide evidence based foot care and use Footlogix products on your feet (callus softener and lotion). We never soak feet. Our German-made steel tools are medically sterilized between each use.

Follow-up visits take approximately 20-30 minutes. During most of these appointments, individualized maintenance care is provided.

  • How much does foot care cost?

An initial assessment costs $35 and typically lasts about 45-60 mins.

A follow-up visit costs $35 and typically lasts about 20-30 mins.

  • Do you take insurance?

No, not directly. We will provide you with a receipt of services performed and our services may be reimbursable through OHIP and/or private health benefit plans.
